I wanted to write a quick blog that has nothing to do with the stock market, investments, money, politics, or anything serious for that matter. (Unless you are a dreamer). I did, however, want to write today so that you could simply have a better understanding of who I am as a person.
I was fortunate to be raised in a family that allowed me to dream. My parents and step parents always taught me that education, treating people fairly, and hard work would allow most of my dreams to come true. (And they are right). Because of that upbringing, I have been able to achieve things and visit some of the places that I have dreamed about over my lifetime.
As you may or may not know, I enjoy the game of golf. I enjoy playing golf, watching golf, talking about golf, and visiting golf courses. I have been very fortunate in my short life to visit places like Torrey Pines, Augusta National, Cog Hill, and many more throughout the country. One course that I have always dreamed of playing was TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach Florida. This is the course where the Players Championship is played each year on the PGA Tour. They have the infamous #17 Island Green and a beautiful #18 with water down the left side and the clubhouse in the background.
The reason this course has been #1 on my dream list (bucket list) is because around the age of 8, I took my first trip in a plane to Ponte Vedra beach and was able to visit the course. We didn’t get a chance to play that day, but since stepping on those grounds, I dreamed of going back to play. I’m sure my dad gave me some inspirational stuff (education, treat people fairly, work hard, etc) when we left that day but I’m now convinced we didn’t play that day because it was too expensive to justify.
The Players Championship has been on this course since 1982 and has seen champions like Tiger Woods, Hal Sutton, Fred Couples, Adam Scott, Tom Kite, Greg Norman, Rickie Fowler, Phil Mickelson, and many more. I have watched this tournament religiously since I visited that course as a kid and could only imagine myself going through the final 3 holes, “The Gauntlet”.
My “dream” would be to play those holes around 5:00pm so that I could get the feel for what the leaders felt like on Sunday trying to finish the tournament. I can remember hitting range balls as if I was teeing off on that very course, on those very holes, at that very exact time.
I am happy to report that on February 10, 2017, while on a rewards trip for our company with my team of advisors I was able to scratch that dream off of my list. Not only was I able to scratch that dream off of my list, I was fortunate enough to tee off at 12:50pm and that meant that I finished my round between 5:30pm and 6:30pm on holes 16-18. I have attached a few pictures of my tee shots and a cover photo of the sun setting on the 18th hole.
I don’t attach these pictures or write this to show that I played the course, but to remind you to dream. Dreaming allows you to achieve things that you may not have thought you could achieve. Write down those dreams, make a dream board, and tell others your dreams……. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
Hopefully this may give you a small insight on who I am, how I think, and possibly a little motivation to visit a place you may have wanted to visit.
I hope you have a great rest of your day and that all your dreams come true.
